Product Information

A decent (if much simplified) version of the pseudo-3D Intellivision game that had critics and gamers swooning in 1981, M-Network's Star Strike for the Atari VCS strips the game down to basics: avoid incoming enemy ships, aim at them, and fire. Only by keeping too many enemies from slipping past you can you save the somewhat crudely rendered planet Earth at the top left corner of the screen from meeting an explosive end. Though graphically inferior to the Intellivision version, and lacking some of the original game's complexities, Star Strike is fun, if rather repetitive, but it doesn't stack up to other first-person space combat games as Star Raiders or Starmaster, both of which proved that the original Intellivision game probably could have been ported to the Atari 2600, complexities and all. To give Star Strike credit, however, perhaps the flickery "Death Star corridor" portion of the VCS edition of Star Wars: The Arcade Game should have been more like this.
